Forming Tool for RV-14 Tip Up Latch (Download File to 3D Print)

JD Air received feedback from multiple customers indicating that in certain circumstances, the RV-14 canopy latch handle does not conform to the curvature of the fuselage skin — leaving the aft portion of the handle standing proud by up to 1/8". Whether this occurs with quick-build kits, slow-build kits, or both has not been determined.

To help builders correct this condition, we developed a two-piece bending tool designed for use with any bench-mounted vise. Install the tool in your vise and use the AN3 bolt hole locations to progressively radius the aft portion of the handle until it sits flush with the skin. A lip along the top edge of each piece registers against the vise jaw, keeping the tool firmly in place during use.
